Research on Standardization for TCM Informatics

The TCM Informatics Standardization Research Center at SAIS-TCM focuses on developing and revising standards for TCM informatics at all levels, as well as researching and promoting the digitalization and application of TCM standards. Its work includes standardization research integrating advanced technologies such as standard development methodologies, digitalization, terminology, informatics, big data, and artificial intelligence (AI). The Center leads the development of an intelligent standard management and technology system for digital TCM, transitioning standardization work from human-led to human-machine collaboration, static management to dynamic optimization, and experience-based to data-driven decision-making. By establishing a digital management system for TCM standards, the Center enables a virtuous cycle of standards – data – intelligence.

In recent years, the Center has led or participated in the development of 21 ISO standards, 9 national standards, and 6 provincial and group standards, and authored or contributed to multiple monographs on TCM standardization. Its research has been recognized with awards including the Contribution Award for Standard Innovation of China (First Prize, 2020), Li Shizhen Medicine Innovation Award (2015), Science and Technology Progress Award of China Association of Chinese Medicine (Third Prize, 2019), WFCMS International Contribution Award – Standardization Contribution Award (2020, two prizes), and academic awards from Shanghai.
