Research on Traditional Medicine

The Traditional Medicine Research Team at SAIS-TCM initiated the Shanghai Forum on World Traditional Medicine in 2017 to promote international academic exchange and cooperation in traditional medicine. The Forum has since held three successful sessions, emerging as a significant international platform that attracts global experts and scholars to share research and practical experiences, fostering the inheritance, innovation, and development of traditional medicine.

The team compiled forum insights into the book History, Present and Prospect of World Traditional Medicine, published domestically and internationally. The book provides a comprehensive reference on major traditional medicine systems, including Ayurveda, chiropractic, European Traditional Herbal Medicine, Greco-Arab and Islamic Herbal Medicine, Homeopathy, Japanese Kampo, Korean Medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine and Thai Medicine, supporting the building of a global health community. In 2024, the team hosted the Traditional Medicine Standardization Forum of the 2024 World Conference on Traditional Medicine, building a new platform for international dialogue and cooperation.

Moving forward, the team will deepen research on traditional medicine, guided by international standards, to develop a standardization system aligned with the unique evolution of traditional medicine. It will foster regular international cooperation mechanisms, build global consensus, and support the high-quality, sustainable development of traditional medicine, contributing wisdom and solutions to global health.
